Crating pace
The editor would create pace in the film for several reasons. One of the reasons can be to bring tensions to the scene but can be both fast and slow paced depending on what the situation on the scene is. Also, the editor would make action scenes fast paced to make it a tense situation with the fighting which would make it fast paced.
Cutting to soundtrack
Cutting to a soundtrack is an editing technique which is when the pace of the cuts is motivated by the song. The editor uses cutting to a soundtrack to help give more motion to the scene as the soundtrack can go with the scene. So the editing point is determined by the soundtrack that would be used.
Point of view
This type of shot is done through the camera work to show that the audience is seeing through the eyes of what the subject is seeing so it is a first person view of the character during a scene. This is a way to help show the audience hat the subject is going through or experiencing by seeing what the subject is seeing.
This is a scene of the film Stephan kings it where all the characters are looking at a book where the pictures in it start to move and the clown appears in it threatening to kill them. So with this scne there is a point of view as you are seeing what all the characters ares seeing when there is the shot of the book.
Cutaway
A cut away is where the shot is focuses on the shot that is cut away from the main focus of the scene. Cutaway shots are intended to show what is happening around the main subject. So most scenes would start with a wide shot and then cutaway shots will emerge to create context and meaning depending on what the situation is in the film. So in some scenes there would be a cutway from a main event to characters maybe witnessing the event and this is done to show their ecpressions and from this we can tell how they fell about it.
Transisiton
This type of technique that is used in editing for film. Transition can be many types as they are different types of editing. The most often used transmission in TV and film is cut which is where it cuts instantly. The other transition is cross fade which is not as instant as cut but is slower when the camera changes to a different cut which can mean several as editing can create messages. So it could mean that it is a peaceful moment. Wipe is now rarely used as it is very dated and as the name suggest it wipe from the screen to another shot which can be done in several creative ways.

Providing and withholding information
Often editors will show someone looking at something with hold Ar what it is they are looking at. They withhold information from the viewer and this raises tension and suspense. This is done to help the viewer engage with the story and make then think about the information that they have been withed and sometimes can be shocked and surprised when the information has then been provided to them. This can mean several things in film such as a plot twist as they withhold information provided last part of the film.
An example of Providing and withholding information can be in saw as in the full film there is information withhold as the as an audience we dont know why there are three men in the room with one dead. Then the information is provided with the third man that seems to be dead was actually alive and he was the one that was pulling the strings all along.
Shot motivation
Film makers and editors use shot motivation to drive the narratives forward literally. This is when one shot motivates and gives reason for the next shot. For example we see shots being fired by a purser and this naturally to the audience would want to see the effect of the shots firing and then a shot of the victim getting shot at so this motivates the shot as the audience want to see each shot of what will happen to the character.
Another example of shot motivation can be the chase sequence at the start of the Film Skyfall as each shot is motivated in this sequence because the audience would want James bond to catch the villain that is trying to escape and get away.
